This Independence Day...

Let us not make tryst with our destiny… not any more...
Fifteenth August - The Independence Day of our country!
The one day that we take, in an entire year, to remember our past! To remember our great freedom fighters… their struggles… to acknowledge them… and to acknowledge their efforts...
Every Independence Day speech or program that we come across, is somehow about the past! Fancy dress competitions for kids about the past heroes… Speeches stating how India has been so great… All of them have references about the past!
But, is Independence Day all about acknowledging the past?
Is this the only motive that we should have to celebrate our Independence Day?
Is this how we should celebrate our Independence?
Trust me; it is futile to talk about the past!
Of course, the past is important; it is what caused us to be here today. But the past is not what has to define our today…. And it most definitely is not what has to define our tomorrow!
Our past is gone…
Our past was our forefathers’ and they have done their bit… All of that is gone… They’re irrelevant to our tomorrow… Because, our Future- that is something that we have in our hands… Our future is something that we have in our hands to change!
And not just change...
There is a very common saying that Change is inevitable! Which is very true… All of us agree to it. I mean, you can sit back today, not doing anything for your country… You can sit completely idle… But I guarantee you… Even in that case, change, will happen.
Let’s just take a very simple example here…
Let’s say you throw a small piece of paper in a corner… You keep doing it for days and days… Constantly… Every day, you throw a paper in the same place…
You, aren’t changing… Your actions, day after day, are NOT changing…
But, that corner? It is getting dirtier day by day…
That! My dear friends, you must understand, is a change too!
So today, I am not going to ask you, to bring about change…
Change will happen by itself over time…
Because, Change is natural…. Change is inevitable…
However growth, on the other hand, is intentional…
Change is inevitable… Growth is intentional…
So, I rephrase: Our future- is something which we have in our hands to grow…
This Independence Day, let us think about how we can grow… Let us think about how we can grow our future… Let us think about how we can make this nation grow…
When we talk about growth, the most obvious word that follows it is success…
The most conventional attempt of describing success in an unconventional way, is to say that success is not defined by the materialistic things that you have… Like a salary hike is not a measure of true success, they, say! Which is indeed a very convincing statement at some level …
However, I’d like to put forth another aspect regarding this…
When you help your organization grow in some way, and then you get rewarded with a salary hike for it, it definitely is a success…
Because true success, I believe, is when you can be instrumental in the growth of an organization… in the growth of society… in the growth of the nation…
Let us resolve today to justify the sacrifices of our freedom fighters, and to also justify the time we spent remembering them in all these years… Because the only way to justify it, is by not just remembering them but by also getting inspired by them to bring forth, not change, but growth…Let us resolve to not just sit back and allow change to overcome us…Let us do our bit to convert that mere change into growth…!!!
Jai Hind!
